Our commitment to our communities
Credit unions were established with the foundation of, “People Helping People.” Over our 89-year history, Southland Credit Union has adopted this philosophy as a guiding principle for giving back to our local communities. As a not-for-profit, we value the communities we serve and are proud to support events that mean the most to local residents. Highlighted below are just some of organizations that Southland supports regularly.
Harbor UCLA Medical Center
Southland has donated more than $100,000 to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, supporting key initiatives and areas impacting both employees and patients of the hospital.
Providence St. John's Health Center
Since 2015, Southland has served the staff of Providence St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica through our express branch located within the hospital. Southland supports several hospital initiatives, including the annual toy drive for patients.
California State University, Long Beach
As the Official Credit Union of Long Beach State Athletics, Southland supports key programs for student-athletes. Southland operates a branch on the campus of Long Beach State, provides financial literacy, scholarships as well as support to several campus organizations.
Casa Youth Shelter
Casa Youth Shelter serves and nurtures youth in crisis with shelter, counseling and support services. Southland provides annual support to Casa for these critical programs.
MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center
Following a merger with Allied Healthcare Credit Union, Southland supports several areas within the medical center, including the Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital, the Todd Cancer Institute and more. Southland also operates a full-service branch inside the medical center, serving healthcare workers and visitors daily.
Los Alamitos Education Foundation (LAEF)
Southland is a top sponsor of LAEF, providing resources for on-campus enrichment classes, clinics and camps. The programs provided to students of all levels at Los Alamitos Unified School District schools offer STEM, sports, the arts, wellness and more.
The Youth Center
The Youth Center provides after school and summer camp programs to students of all ages. Southland provides financial education through their Youth Leadership Academy, and also annually supports key youth programs like the award-winning Camp SHARK.
