Proceeds benefit Long Beach State Women’s Basketball
Los Alamitos, CA (September 5, 2023) – Southland Credit Union, which recently opened a branch on the Long Beach State Campus, has been named the title sponsor of a new pickleball tournament to benefit Long Beach State Women’s Basketball. The tournament, titled, “Southland Credit Union Presents Pickleball in the Pyramid,” will take place in the Walter Pyramid at the Long Beach State University campus on October 29, 2023. Open to the public, the tournament aims to bring in pickleball players from across Long Beach and the greater Southern California region, where pickleball’s popularity has risen exponentially among all ages.
Pickleball in the Pyramid is organized in partnership with Performance Pickleball, LLC, and will offer a fixed doubles format for all levels, including beginner, intermediate and advanced, for women’s, mixed and men’s divisions. The top three teams will be awarded medals in each division. The tournament is free for spectators to attend.
Registration for players is $50 for a single event per person, and $100 for a second event per person. Players will receive a SWAG bag and a meet-and-greet with Long Beach State Women’s Basketball included with their registration.
The event proceeds will benefit Long Beach State Women’s Basketball and programs like summer school, team travel and women’s leadership speakers.
“Southland Credit Union is a staple in the Long Beach Community and at Long Beach State University,” said Long Beach State Women’s Basketball Coach, Amy Wright. “There was zero hesitation from Southland when it came to stepping up to the plate to be our lead sponsor in order to provide a well-run and established event at the Pyramid that will bring Women’s Basketball and the Long Beach community together. We are thankful for our partnership and eager for this event to grow every year.”
Southland Credit Union is also the Official Credit Union of Long Beach State Athletics. The multi-year agreement between Southland and Long Beach State Athletics supports several university sports programs, including Women’s Basketball.
“As an alumna of Long Beach State, former Long Beach State Women’s Basketball player and Long Beach resident, I’m proud to work with Coach Amy and Southland Credit Union to launch this exciting new event,” said Southland Credit Union Board Member, Angie Avery. “The tournament provides an opportunity for the community to come and experience the Walter Pyramid and Long Beach State Athletics through pickleball. Southland is the ideal partner to help bring the community and Long Beach State together.”
