Southland News
Fraud attempts continue to rise, and scammers are becoming more creative every day. At Southland, protecting your financial well‑being is our top priority. As your trusted financial partner, we want to ensure you have the information you need to stay safe and confident in your accounts.
Below are important reminders to help you recognize red flags and keep your sensitive information secure.
1. Never share sensitive information
Scammers may impersonate financial institutions, government agencies or other companies to trick you into revealing personal data.
Remember:
We will never ask for your full Social Security number.
We will never ask for your Digital Banking password or PIN.
We will never request your card number through an unsolicited call, text or email.
If someone asks for information that feels personal or unusual, treat it as a warning sign. Hang up or delete the message right away.
2. Be careful with the information you give out
Scammers can gather small pieces of information and use them to impersonate you.
Before sharing details:
Ask why it is needed.
Confirm who you are speaking with.
Only give information when you initiate the contact using a verified phone number or website.
When in doubt, do not give it out.
3. We will never call you late at night
Fraudsters often call very early or very late, hoping to catch you off guard. To help you stay safe, Southland Credit Union will never call you late at night or outside normal business hours.
If you receive an unexpected after hours call claiming to be from us, it is a scam. Hang up and contact us directly using the number on our website or on your Southland card.
4. Slow down when something feels urgent
Scammers create pressure by telling you to act immediately or you'll face consequences.
Financial institutions do not operate this way. Take your time, verify the request and reach out to us directly if something feels off.
5. If anything seems suspicious, contact us directly
You are never bothering us by calling. If you receive a message or request that worries you, or if you think your information may be at risk, contact us right away. We are here to help protect you.
