Southland Credit Union donated $2,500 to the Downey Foundation for Educational Opportunities (DFEO), reinforcing its ongoing commitment to supporting education and empowering local students.
The contribution supports before- and after-school enrichment programs that give students access to learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
The donation comes during Southland’s 90th anniversary year and highlights its continued commitment to the Downey community, where it has served Members since 1981. “At Southland Credit Union, our 90-year legacy is rooted in people helping people,” says Deena Otto, President and CEO of Southland Credit Union. “As we celebrate this milestone, we’re proud to invest in communities that have supported us for decades. Supporting local students through education is one of the most meaningful ways we give back.”
DFEO has a long-standing mission to provide high-quality enrichment programs, at minimal to no costs to students within the Downey Unified School District. Through partnerships with organizations like Southland Credit Union, the foundation continues to expand its impact each year.
“With the generous support of community partners like Southland Credit Union, we can open doors and expand access for local students who might not otherwise have the means to experience these opportunities,” says Sheila Tetangco-Bartolone, Executive Director and CEO of DFEO.
Southland Credit Union remains dedicated to giving back to the community through charitable contributions, financial education initiatives and community partnerships—continuing a legacy of service that spans 90 years and counting.
